Postdoc Jelte van der Vaart visits 3FM radio station

The Center for Molecular Medicine (CMM) at UMC Utrecht embraces the unexpected, even when it involves something as ordinary as a kitchen utensil. Recently, Jelte van der Vaart, a Postdoc researcher in Madelon Maurice's CMM group, joined the hosts of NPO 3FM's radio show, Mart & Sophie, to shed light on an intriguing question. The hosts' curiosity was piqued by news reports suggesting that washing-up brushes were hotbeds of bacteria. Who among them had the dirtiest brush? This was the question they invited Jelte to unravel, live on national radio. The brushes were sent to CMM, where he examined their bacterial content. The outcome was clear – radio host Mart's brush was crowned the bacterial champion. To see and hear more, the video of the item can be found below (in Dutch).
