PhD graduation Bob van Eijkeren: Lipid antigens in adipose tissue

Adipose tissue is more than just fat cells that store fats. It is a very complex tissue with a wide variety of different cells that have different functions, both locally and throughout the body.
Fat cells communicate with immune cells present in the fat tissue. This communication is essential for adipose tissue to stay healthy and was focus of my thesis. More specifically, the interaction beteren fat cells and invariant natural killer T (iNKT) cells, were i zoomed in on the protein CD1d, located on the membrane of the fat cell, responsible for regulating iNKT cell behaviour.

May 17th was the PhD graduation of Bob van Eijkeren. Like he said himself: It was an amazing day and Iā€™m still enjoying it!
